The Biggest Announcements from London Tech Week 2026

Former Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer opened London Tech Week with a series of major announcements focused on strengthening the UK’s AI capabilities.

These included around £400 million to secure specialist AI chips for the UK, plans for a £750 million national AI supercomputer, further investment in British chip development and new AI skills initiatives.

He also announced a new government AI tool designed to help people find work and build CVs, alongside plans to expand access to AI tutors for around 450,000 children receiving free school meals.

London Tech Week coincided with more than £6 billion of new technology investment into the UK, supporting approximately 8,000 jobs.

Major commitments included:

• AMD: up to £2 billion over five years to support UK AI research, infrastructure and partnerships.
• Nebius: approximately £1.7 billion to expand AI infrastructure across four UK sites.
• Amazon: more than £1 billion of investment, supporting up to 4,000 jobs in Northamptonshire.
• Ark: an £807 million expansion in the UK.
• Eros Innovation: £265 million of investment with the potential to create more than 3,000 jobs.

Together, these announcements reinforced London Tech Week’s role as a focal point for major investment in the UK technology ecosystem.

Prince William paid a much anticipated visit to the final day at Olympia to launch the UK’s first Homelessness Data Lab, led by Homewards in partnership with LandAid and Salesforce.

Bringing together more than 25 organisations, the initiative will explore how data and AI can help identify early signs of housing insecurity – from missed payments and utility disconnections to school absences – enabling earlier intervention before people reach the point of homelessness.

Organisations involved include Accenture, Bloomberg, VodafoneThree and NatWest Group.

During London Tech Week's unforgettable VIP Party at the end of day 1, Uber and British autonomous-driving company Wayve opened an interest list for people keen to experience London’s first robotaxi service.

The service is expected to use Ford Mustang Mach-E vehicles powered by Wayve’s autonomous-driving technology, with trained safety operators initially on board. Subject to regulatory approval, customers will be able to request the vehicles through the Uber app.

The companies also shared plans to expand their autonomous-driving partnership into more than ten international markets.

On day 2 Justice Secretary David Lammy took to the AI Arena stage to outline new ways AI could support the justice system.

Plans included testing AI legal assistants to help with case research, analysis and routine administrative work, alongside a separate tool designed to help judges identify trial-ready cases and group hearings more efficiently.

The government also announced that probation officers across England and Wales would gain access to Justice Transcribe, an AI transcription service expected to significantly reduce time spent on administrative tasks.
