Becoming Head of Quantum and Sensors in the Department for Transport (DfT) in February 2026, Tom is the focal point for all things quantum technologies in the department and its ecosystem. He works to convene and link-up those developing quantum technologies to end users, along with everyone in between, ensuring these technologies are adopted where they will make a difference. Tom entered the civil service in 2022, working primarily with science, innovation and technology throughout his time in MOD, DfT, NPCC, and DESNZ, bringing a broad experience of the opportunities and challenges associated with adopting emerging technologies in government.
