Stephen Welton was appointed Non-executive Chair of the British Business Bank in October 2023. He founded and led Business Growth Fund (BGF) from 2011 to 2022, helping establish it as the UK’s most active investor in scaling businesses, with the model later replicated internationally. Stephen also advised the UK Government on the creation of the British Business Bank and served on HM Treasury’s Patient Capital Review Industry Panel. Previously, he co-founded CCMP Capital and held senior roles at Barclays Private Equity and Henderson Ventures. He was awarded a CBE in 2023 for services to small businesses and entrepreneurship.
