Richard Carter
Richard leads Proximie's software and hardware engineering group. Richard and the Proximie engineers create software and tools that bring Proximie's vision of care without limits to life; they work closely with internal and external stakeholders to empower surgeons to collaborate and review their work, and clinical managers to stay up to date with opportunities for efficiencies.
Prior to joining Proximie in the summer of 2021, Richard worked in a broad range of senior engineering leadership roles across capital markets, consumer finance, travel, and process management software. A little over half his career in capital markets was with J.P. Morgan, where he was responsible for the engineering of J.P. Morgan's global system for consolidated interest rates derivatives market risk and profit and loss management and reporting. The system managed complex transformations and derivations on over two billion data points a day and it was here that Richard also personally coded the first implementation of market risk monitoring in real time to ensure continuous appropriate risk limit utilisation.
Outside his leadership roles, Richard was also the founding technology adviser to the global Vitamin D External Quality Assessment Scheme ("DEQAS", www.deqas.org ), a not-for-profit organisation founded to improve the standard of Vitamin D measurement globally. He designed and wrote the first fully automated online system for gathering, processing, analysing and reporting data. DEQAS went on to accredit hundreds of laboratories worldwide measuring Vitamin D, the accreditation now recognised in the US by NIST and in the UK by UK NEQAS. Richard's contribution to newly robust data on laboratory performance has been recognised in a range of publications, including the prestigious Journal of Steroid Biochemistry and Molecular Biology.
Richard has a double major (known in the UK as "dual honours") bachelor's degree in Law and Computer Science from Keele University in the UK, and was called to the Bar of England and Wales as a barrister at Lincoln's Inn, London. He is married to Hannah, a professional cellist and manager of the string sextet "Ensemble Reza", and has three children all of whom are much more accomplished musicians than he is.
