Professor Sir Colin Humphreys CBE FRS FREng. Professor of Materials Science at Queen Mary University of London, Fellow and Member of Council of the Royal Society, Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering, and knighted in 2010. He set up two spin-off companies, acquired by Plessey, which is manufacturing microLEDs based on his technology in Plymouth. High-temperature materials developed in the Aerospace Centre he founded are now flying in Rolls-Royce engines. He founded Paragraf, to exploit his group’s research on graphene and other 2D materials, which promises to revolutionise a wide range of ultra-low energy and ultra-fast electronic devices.
