Louis Barson

Louis leads work in the Institute of Physics (IOP) on Science, Innovation and Skills – aiming to sure up the foundations of science, business and education so that the societal and economic benefits of physics are better understood, and more fully realised.
Louis joined the Institute of Physics (IOP) in 2021 from the Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy (BEIS), where he was deputy director for future sectors. There he shaped technology policy design and delivery for emerging sectors in the UK government’s industrial strategy, and led on key technology areas such as artificial intelligence, quantum technologies, and smart robotics.
He has a background in philosophy and speaks fluent Japanese.
