Viscount Camrose is the UK's first Minister for AI.
In his role, Viscount Camrose helps guide the UK's strategy on AI, navigating frontier AI risks and opportunities. At the inaugural AI Safety Summit, at Bletchley Park, the UK government recently announced a new AI Safety Institute evaluating frontier systems.
Beyond AI his ministerial portfolio also covers Intellectual Property, Cyber, Geospatial, and Ordnance Survey. He is currently taking the Digital Markets, Competition and Consumer Bill and the Data Protection and Digital Information Bill through the House of Lords. Â
Appointed a peer in the House of Lords in April 2022, he was previously co-chair of the AI in Weapons Systems Committee. Prior to his ministerial appointment Viscount Camrose worked in the private sector as a management consultant. He has worked in international development, shipping pharmaceuticals, oil and gas, financial services, and manufacturing.  Â
