James is a founder, investor, and lifelong technologist passionate about cloud, automation, and incident response. He co-founded and served as CEO of Cado Security—successfully acquired by Darktrace—where he helped pioneer next-generation cloud forensics and response.

Today, James leads Cloud Strategy at Darktrace as Senior Vice President (SVP), shaping the company’s global approach to securing cloud environments and guiding customers on their journey toward resilient, intelligent cloud security. With over 18 years of front-line experience, James has helped organisations across the world respond to sophisticated cyber-espionage and criminal campaigns. His career began in intelligence, where he served as Assistant Director of Operations at the Australian Signals Directorate, leading Australia’s national incident response capability.

After moving to the UK in 2013, he built and led advanced Cyber Incident Response services, supporting global customers through major intrusions and crises—including the uncovering of the APT10 Cloudhopper campaign and helping organisations recover from NotPetya. James is an active and recognised voice in the cybersecurity community. He has spoken at events such as RSA Conference, Black Hat EU, CloudSec, CRESTCon, and Forensics Europe Expo, and has published work on topics including disruptive cyberattacks and supply-chain compromise. He regularly contributes to blogs, podcasts, and panels, and remains passionate about advancing the state of cyber defence and fostering innovation across the ecosystem.
