Danny Russell

Danny Russell is the Head of Payments Innovation Technology at the Bank of England, where he leads the technology workstream on the Digital Pound, DLT Lab and wider retail payments innovation. He leads the Bank’s work on the Digital Pound Lab, driving experimentation and industry collaboration, and he has also led work on the DLT Innovation Challenge, advancing the Bank’s exploration of distributed ledger technologies. Danny previously served as Principal Architect for the Digital Pound, overseeing the technology workstream, contributing to the Technology Working Paper (February 2023), and co-leading Project Rosalind with the BIS Innovation Hub. Before joining the Bank, Danny was Director of Product for Crypto, Digital Currencies and Blockchain at FIS. He has also participated in international standards development through the W3C Payment Request Working Group and the PCI CPOC Working Group.
