Appointed Head of the NPL Quantum Programme in 2025, Dr Cyrus Larijani is responsible for leading the NPL Quantum Programme in support of the National Quantum Technologies Programme (NQTP). He works closely with NPL's scientists and engineers to develop the commercialisation of quantum technologies to deliver real-world applications, while continuing to develop world-class science that delivers impact for the UK on the global stage. Cyrus joined NPL in 2011, first as a Senior Scientist in nuclear metrology, then moving to a Strategic Business Development role, where he had responsibility for a multi-million-pound portfolio of business for both the nuclear and space sectors. He was also the NPL strategy lead for the TRUTHS (Traceable Radiometry Underpinning Terrestrial- and Helio-Studies) mission. During this time, Cyrus undertook a secondment into the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy as Head of Industrial Strategy and Supply Chain in New Nuclear, where he was responsible for working on the supply chain guidance plan for new nuclear as one of the outputs of the Nuclear Sector Deal.
