Investing in Indonesia’s AI Future

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is rapidly reshaping the global digital landscape, presenting massive opportunities for innovation and socio-economic growth. AI technologies are being harnessed to enhance productivity, optimize services, and address complex challenges—from healthcare and education to transportation and climate resilience.
As one of the fastest-growing digital economies in Southeast Asia, Indonesia work towards the momentum to develop AI as part of the tool for boosting digital transformation. Indonesia Digital Vision 2045 also presents commitment to advancing a robust digital infrastructure, nurturing talent, and promoting innovation that can uplift communities and drive inclusive growth. AI stands at the heart of this transformation, offering platform that can accelerate development, improve governance, and generate new economic opportunities.
Indonesia has started to develop its digital capacity-building, smart governance, and support for tech startups. With the global surge in AI-driven solutions, particularly in sectors like fintech, health tech, and agritech, a multi-stakeholder approach of AI safety and development has taken place to safeguarding the national interests. Key digital frameworks have been introduced, including data protection, electric transaction, and AI ethics regulations, to lay a solid foundation for Indonesia’s digital transformation.
Digital infrastructure in the country has grown significantly in the past few years. Research on AI-related topics has reached over 25,000 and a few have contributed to leading AI international conferences. More than 900 universities in Indonesia offering AI and Machine Learning related programs offering 500,000 promising young talents 2019 – 2024 to the digital industry. However, to meet the growing digital industry demand, Indonesia may struggle with a digital talent gap with a need of 9 million additional tech workers by 2030.
Part of London Tech Week, this fringe event will be served as the perfect avenue for dialogue and collaboration between key players from Indonesia’s innovation ecosystem—government leaders, venture capitalists, technology companies, startups, students, and the diaspora—to discuss the transformative role of AI in national development. With a special focus on the opportunities and challenges ahead, the event seeks to strengthen connections, share insights, explore concrete ways in shaping Indonesia’s digital future, and most importantly build collaborative effort to find the best solution in addressing challenges ahead.
