AYO TECH CORP aims to create disruptive medical innovations by offering them as affordable alternatives for the average Filipino doctor or patient. Our major product is the Aquavac low cost negative pressure wound therapy (NPWT), offering treatment costs that are a small fraction compared to industry standards. NPWT is a technology that improves wound healing by applying subatmospheric pressure (-60 to -125mmHg) onto a wound. This is achieved by applying an occlusive drape over a porous wound filler, with a tube running from the dressing to the vacuum source. The vacuum removes excess fluids, reduce the size of the wound, maintain a moist wound environment, and stimulate cells that participate in wound healing. NPWT has become standard practice in first world health facilities. We have used converted aquarium pumps as an effective vacuum source and have proven that it has equal effectiveness with the gold standard commercial NPWT systems that cost two hundredfold or more. The Aquavac has been used extensively in the Philippines, and scores have been sent for use in third world countries such as Ethiopia, Rwanda, Sudan, Nigeria, Pakistan, Bangladesh, and many others. We have, through a grant given by DOST PCHRD, proven its effectiveness equal to the gold standard commercial npwt system, the KCI VAC, and was subsequently published in the prestigious American journal, the Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery, JBJS. In Philippine orthopedic history, this is the second time that a Filipino paper was published in this journal.
