Ahead of London Tech Week, this event showcased the shortlisted start-ups for the Elevating Founders Europe Semi Final - the pitch event to decide who will make it through to the Elevating Founders Final at London Tech Week this June.

Joe Stringer

Partner

Octopus Ventures


Joe leads the HealthTech team at Octopus Ventures, investing in high-impact seed and series A HealthTech business through to series B and C from across the UK and Europe.  He has over 25 years of experience in healthcare, management consulting, tech deployment and VC.  

Joe founded TenX Health VC and subsequently joined Octopus Ventures on the back of leading Google Health in the UK, and the ventures and healthcare practices for advisory firm EY in the UK.  He is a passionate believer in impact capital and the opportunity we now have in the HealthTech sector to improve billions of lives around the world – regardless of funding policy and politics.  

At EY, he was the global healthcare supply chain leader, ran a UK team of 120 healthcare specialists, and founded and jointly led three technology businesses in the UK’s National Health Service.  He’s led significant and high-profile transformation programmes, including a four-year, £14bn programme to transform the NHS supply chain.  He loves dogs, cycling, triathlon and Chelsea FC in equal measure.

Sonya Iovieno is Head of Venture & Growth Banking at SVB UK, where she supports high growth companies that have raised equity from Venture Capital Funds. Working with founders and their teams from Series A up to IPO, Sonya provides debt capital to help companies scale and expand. She joined SVB in 2016.

Sonya has 25 years of Corporate and Commercial Banking experience, working with FTSE 100 and FTSE 250 companies. Before her current role, she was responsible for new business origination with Mid-Market companies at Lloyds Bank.

Carrie Babcock is a member of the UK investment team of Beringea, a transatlantic Series A investor with $800m under management. Carrie serves on the board of four portfolio companies and most recently led Beringea’s investment into healthcare review platform, Doctify. Beringea has previously backed multibillion-dollar healthcare innovators including Sharecare and InTouch.

Prior to Beringea, Carrie invested at the seed stage in deep tech and impact investing. She has lived and worked in the US and Europe and has an MBA from INSEAD and a BA from Barnard College, Columbia University.
